Happy Back-to-School!

Enjoy the fourth grade. It was my favorite year! Think of how much you are going to learn! You will soon notice that you are getting smarter every day! That should be your goal-to grow smarter each day. Think of ways to get smarter. What habits do you need?

  • Do yo think getting enough sleep and eating healthier will help?
  • What do you think about drinking more water instead of soda?
  • What habits will you need in the classroom?
  • Will you need to listen and pay attention?
  • Will you need to do your work in class and at home?
  • Will participating in class and coming to school prepared help you?
  • Will placing your home learning and agenda in your book bag at night keep you from forgetting them in the morning?
  • What other ideas do you have that will help with school success?

Happy Earth Day!

Publix is selling an Earth Day bag for 99 cents! :)

Remember, the earth and its health is in our care.

"I leave you the world as I knew it,
The land and the sea, in your care,
Seen from the sky, where I flew it,
I leave you the view from the air."

Reeve Lindbergh (son of aviator, Charles Lindbergh)

(To whom would Jack say that the poet is speaking? To whom do you think the poet is speaking? Does this stanza remind you of anything? Did you make any connections?)

The Pasture by Robert Frost
Listen to Robert Frost read his poem, "The Pasture"

The Pasture

By Robert Frost 1874–1963
I'm going out to clean the pasture spring;
I'll only stop to rake the leaves away
(And wait to watch the water clear, I may):
I sha'n't be gone long.—You come too.

I'm going out to fetch the little calf
That's standing by the mother. It's so young,
It totters when she licks it with her tongue.
I sha'n't be gone long.—You come too.

Pi Day, Saturday, 3-14-15 (3.1415...)

It's the Pi Day of the century! Read on to see why.

Right now, you are learning to measure and identify shapes.
Next year, you will learn to measure a circle using Pi.
The beginning digits of Pi are: 3.1415.
Actually, the number of digits of Pi are endless (infinite).
Notice how Pi's digits coincide with the date? 3.1415... (3-14-15) Neat, huh?
That's why this Pi day is called, "The Pi Day of the Century."
Every other year will be just 3.14...
You can still enjoy Pi Day and all of the activities that go along with it.
How many digits can you remember? Someone broke a record memorizing the most digits!
